Some days, it may be difficult to love yourself. You may feel stressed out, down or self-conscious for several different reasons. No matter what you’re going through, you need to remind yourself to love yourself. To love yourself can have positive health benefits, both for your body and your mind. If you’re struggling with the idea of self-love, here are a few tips to put you on the right track.
Write Down Your Goals
At first, writing all your goals down might seem redundant. If you have your goals in your head, what is the point of writing them down? If you have a plan to go to the gym at least three times a week, will write it down makes you more likely to go? Studies show that this can make you hit the gym more often. By writing down the goals, you are holding yourself accountable. Remember that you should also write down all your achievements. To write down the accomplishments will give you a feeling of satisfaction when you see it. When you have this kind of reward, you are more likely to motivate yourself to succeed elsewhere.
Eat Healthy Foods
Did you know that there such things as feel-good foods? Some foods can enhance your mood. There is a connection between your mind and your stomach. When your stomach feels good, you are more likely to feel better emotionally. Try foods like yogurt, salmon, dark chocolate and leafy greens. You need to nourish your body. Oatmeal carbs, for instance, are nourishing and satisfying. Starting your morning with a healthy breakfast can change your entire day.
Move Your Body Mindfully
When you are told to move mindfully, this does not necessarily mean exercise. Exercise is important but it is not the only way to feel good about yourself. When you move mindfully, you are listening to your body. What does your body want to do? If you force yourself to work out using methods that you dislike, you won’t stick to it. Instead, think about your body. Do you enjoy hiking? Do you like to take your dog for long walks through the neighborhood? Maybe you like to window shop at the local mall. Some people enjoy yoga as their activity of choice. Physical activity does not have to stress you out. It should be something that you look forward to, rather than what you dread.
Create a Comfortable Environment
Think of all the different places that you spend time with. You might think about your office, your bedroom, maybe even if your car. When you are in this space, how do you feel? Are you watching the clock, waiting for a chance to leave? Do you dread entering this space? If you have any negative feelings associated with the environment that you spend your time in, then you need to do something to change it. Surround yourself with the things that you love! For instance, maybe you love art. You can pin up art work around your office. If you love flowers, decorate with flowers. You can even write positive messages around your space to remember to feel good. No matter what makes you comfortable, create an environment that you love to be in.
One thing to remember is that while you want your space to be comfortable and filled with the things that bring you joy, you do not want unnecessary distractions. For instance, if you need to make your office space more comfortable, you do not want to add books that you may pick up and read. The point is to be able to function in your space while bringing yourself joy.
You deserve to love yourself. Remember that you only have one body and you should treat it with all the kindness that you would demand others treat your family and friends. Think about yourself, what you love and make choices to encourage joy and self-love.
